MYOB Acumatica vs MYOB Exo: What’s the Difference?
If you’re running a MYOB ERP and looking to connect it with Shopify, one of the first questions is which MYOB product you’re on — because the integration approach differs.
MYOB Exo
MYOB Exo is an on-premise ERP. It runs on your local servers (or a hosted environment), and your data stays within your infrastructure. Exo has been around for decades and is deeply embedded in many Australian and New Zealand manufacturing, distribution, and retail businesses.
Exo’s strength is its flexibility. It can be heavily customised by MYOB consultants to match specific business processes. Search templates, custom fields, custom tables, and stored procedures give businesses a system that fits their exact workflow.
For Shopify integration, InSyncer connects to Exo via the Exo API. The API is included with your Exo installation — no additional license required. Your MYOB consultant handles the Exo-side configuration (search templates, custom tables), and CyberWorkshop handles the Shopify and integration side.
MYOB Acumatica
MYOB Acumatica (formerly MYOB Advanced) is a cloud-based ERP. It’s the MYOB-branded version of the Acumatica platform, hosted in the cloud and accessible via browser. MYOB has been transitioning customers from Exo to Acumatica as part of their cloud strategy.
Acumatica’s strength is its modern architecture and API-first design. It’s built for integration from the ground up. The platform supports multiple companies, complex warehouse structures, and sophisticated pricing rules out of the box.
For Shopify integration, InSyncer connects via the Acumatica API. This requires a dedicated API user license (your MYOB consultant provisions this). The B2B capabilities on the Acumatica side — price classes, customer-specific pricing, promotional pricing — map directly to Shopify Plus B2B features, making it an excellent fit for B2B ecommerce.
What this means for Shopify integration
Both ERPs connect to Shopify via InSyncer, but the implementation details differ:
Exo integrations tend to involve more Exo-side customisation. Search templates and custom tables are configured to expose the data InSyncer needs. The delta stock sync pattern (using SHOPIFY_GENERAL_INFO) is Exo-specific. Implementation involves close collaboration between CyberWorkshop and your MYOB Exo consultant.
Acumatica integrations leverage the platform’s native API more directly. Price classes, customer accounts, and product data are accessed through standard API endpoints. B2B features are more comprehensive on Acumatica because the ERP has richer native support for complex pricing structures.
Both platforms are fully supported by InSyncer. The choice between Exo and Acumatica is typically driven by your broader business needs (on-premise vs cloud, existing investment, MYOB’s roadmap), not by the Shopify integration.
